Despite the windy weather, crowds flocked to the 26th annual Lobster Fest hosted this evening by the Rotary Clubs of Greenport and Southold.
Hundreds of steamed lobsters, grilled-to-order steaks, mussels, fresh local corn, potatoes and watermelon were served up and folks ate picnic style at tables set up on the waterfront at Founders Landing in Southold. Live music played while they enjoyed an al fresco dinner.
The event, one of summer’s most popular gatherings on the North Fork, benefits Rotary’s charitable activities. The all-volunteer Greenport and Southold Rotary clubs support local nonprofit organizations and scholarships for local students, as well as endeavors around the globe — like the eradication of polio and the provision of clean drinking water — through the Rotary Foundation and Rotary International, which charters clubs in local communities on every continent. Rotary, an organization of 1.2 million members worldwide, was founded in Chicago in 1905.
