If you happened to drive past Pugliese Vineyards in Cutchogue last night, you might have smelled the delicious aroma of tomato sauce wafting through the air. The source was the second annual Victoria’s NoFo Tomato Sauce Boss contest, a fundraiser held to benefit Katie’s Krops, an organization that helps feed the hungry.

Twelve-year-old Victoria Witczak of Cutchogue hosted the event, which included tastings of over a dozen tomato based sauces made by local cooks. Tasters paid $8 to sample and vote on the sauces and prizes were awarded for the tastiest entries.

This year’s contest raised $1,000 for Katie’s Krops. Top tomato sauce honors went to Donna Farley, who won the people’s choice award, and Lorelle Pugliese, who won the professional choice award. Callie and Tim Martino of Crazy Beans and Chewy of Ameratti’s were this year’s professional judges.

In addition to running the Sauce Boss fundraiser, Victoria grows vegetables in her backyard and donates them to local food pantries. See previous story.
