At a solemn ceremony at Jean Cochran Park in Peconic this afternoon, the 2,958 people who died in the September 11, 2001 terror attacks were remembered.

First responders from departments across the North Fork marched past the flags and circled the memorial while Cutchogue Fire Department chaplain Thomas Roslak said a prayer.

Also in attendance was a group of retired first responders from the FDNY and the NYPD, including Phil Burns, deputy chief division commander of Brooklyn’s 11th division, who lost 54 of his men on 9/11.

The ceremony was hosted by the 9/11 Committee and the Southold Town Fire Chiefs Council.
