Greenport’s Floyd Memorial Library will celebrate its 100th anniversary this fall and they are seeking input from the public to make it a memorable event.

Circulation clerk Janet Olinkiewicz is asking people to send in any fond memories they have of the library and she will incorporate these into an anniversary display.

“Some people remember coming to story hour as children,” she said. “Others may remember special help they’ve received from the library in locating something they were searching for.”

The plan is to put together a display of old photos and add the memories to the display, she said. The library is also hoping to put together a booklet of memories.

“Some of the families who helped found the library in 1917 are still living in Greenport,” she said. “We’d love to hear from them.”

The library is also planning to have a quilted wall hanging about the institution’s history and is organizing a celebratory luncheon as well. Dates have not been set for anniversary activities.

If you have a memory to share, email Janet Olinkiewicz at janet@floydmemoriallibrary.org. She also welcomes any old photos you may wish to share.
