Sophie R. Brown of Riverhead died at her home on September 10, 2017. She was 82 years old.
Born in Speonk on June 21, 1935, she was the daughter of Emmitt and Elsie Love.
She was a laundry worker at Crescent Duck Farm and a was a 30-year member of the Marantha Choir.
Predeceased by her husband John J., she is survived by her children, Lane Simmons and Christopher Simmons, both of Riverhead, Michael Simmons of Queens, her sisters, Kathleen Evans of Riverhead and Elsie White of Maryland, and by four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors on Monday, Sept. 18 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the church.
McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
