Babylon defeated Mattituck 1-0 yesterday at Mattituck High School.
On a rain-soaked, wind-swept afternoon, Mattituck and Babylon did there best to play through 35-mph wind gusts and driving rain. Neither team could muster many shots, as the wet grass made it difficult to actually get going, but midway through the first half, Babylon managed to sneak in a corner kick past Mattituck keeper James Jacobs.
That’s all it took as Mattituck tried desperately to get shots on the Babylon cage in the second half, looking to gain a tie. But fighting periods of on-and-off heavy, driving rain, Mattituck came up empty.
