This weekend marks the 28th year the East End Seaport Museum and Maritime Foundation has celebrated Greenport’s nautical heritage with its popular Maritime Festival.

The fun kicks off on Friday night, Sept. 22 with a Land & Sea Gala cocktail party held on the waterfront at Greenport Yacht and Shipbuilding. The gala features local food and beverages, live music and an auction to benefit the museum.

There are events throughout the village all day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A colorful parade featuring first responders, the school band, antique cars and mermaids starts at 11 a.m., making its way from the corner of Broad and north Main Street to Front Street and ending at Mitchell Park.

Vendors will line the streets selling food, beverages and merchandise. Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic during the festival.

Mitchell Park will play host to an exhibit of antique fire trucks, a display of ice and classic boats, children’s activities, live music and other attractions.

On Sunday, you can start the day with a Pirates and Mermaids breakfast fundraiser hosted by Paul Drum at Front Street Station. Vendors, displays and activities throughout the village will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
