The Greenport Village Clerk has announced that work scheduled for Main Street this morning has been postponed.
Construction work will instead take place on Sixth Street, south of Wiggins Street to the railroad tracks.
Beginning on Oct. 2, normal traffic patterns will still be re-routed from Main Street between Bay and Central Avenues on to Carpenter Street, with the detour expected to last for two to three days. This is to accommodate the removal of trees along Main Street.
All vehicles should be removed from the street by 7 a.m. starting on Monday, Oct. 2. All residents and visitors are encouraged to utilize the municipal parking lots at Adams Street.

Road work will commence on Main Street in the Village of Greenport Thursday morning at 8 a.m.
Work will begin at Front and Main streets and is expected to have minimal traffic impacts Thursday and Friday, the village said in a press release.
Beginning on Monday, Oct. 2, traffic will be rerouted from Main Street (between Bay Avenue and Central Avenue) onto Carpenter Street, with the detour expected to last two to three days, according to the press release issued by Village Clerk Sylvia Pirillo.
The village is undertaking a large road improvement project that includes widening the Main Street between Bay Avenue and Central Avenue — as well as improving the concrete aprons in front of the firehouses, curbs and sidewalks on South Street between Fourth and Fifth Avenues, repaving Broad Street, curbs and sidewalks near Sixth Street and Wiggins, and ultimately the repaving of Main Street from Steamboat Corner to Claudio’s. The village bonded $800,000 for the work.
The construction schedule is subject to change, as it is weather-dependent, Pirillo said.
