Step back in history to the year 1775 and spend the day with Revolutionary War patriot soldiers at Southold Historical Society’s museum complex on October 7 and 8. The Third New York Regiment re-enactors will portray a unit encamped in what is now Suffolk County during the War of Independence in 1775.

A living history encampment set up by the re-enactors from the regiment the night before will greet visitors with tents and everything soldiers would need to live on as they traveled to join up with General Washington and his troops. The re-enactors immerse themselves and their visitors in a well-researched experience of what life was like in a military encampment.

Eighteenth-century military camp life, including demonstrations of firearms, military drills, authentic music and song, cooking demonstrations and other daily tasks will come to life.

The encampment will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 7, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 8.

There is no cost to attend the re-enactment as the regiment is funded for this weekend through the generosity of the Gardiner Foundation.
