Visit the American Folk Art Museum with Southold Historical Society

The Southold Historical Society is planning a bus trip to New York City’s American Folk Art Museum on Dec. 8 to see an exhibit entitled War and Pieced: “The Annette Gero Collections of Quilts from Military Fabrics.”

According to a press release issued by the society, the exhibition showcases “spectacularly complex geometric quilts made exclusively by men using richly dyed wools derived from British military and dress uniforms. The quilts date from the Napoleonic and Crimean Wars. “The New York Times” reviewed the display as “spectacular.”

Tickets for the trip are $40 per person and include round-trip transportation from the Hampton Jitney terminal in Calverton, museum admission and a guided tour of the quilt exhibit.

The bus will leave the Jitney terminal located at 253 Edwards Ave. in Calverton at 8 a.m. and arrive at the museum at 10 a.m. The tour of the exhibit begins at 10:30 am. and runs for an hour. The bus will depart from the museum at 4 p.m. and return to the Jitney complex at 6 p.m.
