For the ninth year, Suffolk County Community College’s Culinary Arts program students will prepare Thanksgiving dinners for families on the East End.
This marks the first year that the school will cook for Community Action Southold Town’s Greenport food pantry. In previous years they have provided Thanksgiving meals to the Dominican Sisters of Hampton Bays.
On Wednesday morning, 40 student volunteers from several classes at the school will prepare 200 meals at their facility on Main Street in Riverhead. All of the food will be provided by CAST and the students will do the cooking.
More than 20 turkeys, 100 pounds of mashed potatoes, 50 pounds of sweet potatoes, 80 pounds of stuffing, 25 pounds of assorted vegetables and 20 each of apple and pumpkin pies will be prepared and packed into individual servings. Volunteers from CAST will pick them up and deliver them to the Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Church in Greenport.
Helen Finnigan, president of CAST’s board of directors said that all are welcome to come to the church between 5 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22. to either eat there or take meals home.
