Pay increases for Greenport Village workers were unanimously approved last night by village trustees, who accepted a four-year contract settlement with the Civil Service Employees Association and granted 15-percent pay hikes to four managerial personnel.
The board approved a memorandum of agreement with the CSEA, covering the period from June 1 of this year through May 31, 2021. The union workers will receive pay increases of 2 percent per year for the first three years of the contract, and a 3-percent increase in the final year.
The village treasurer’s salary will increase from $72,500 to $83,375 and the clerk from $77,800 to $89,470, pursuant to the resolution approved by the board last night. The salaries of the deputy clerk and deputy treasurer will increase from $45,000 to $51,750. The increases take effect Nov. 29. The clerk has not had a pay increase since September 2014 and the other three management employees have not had any pay increases since spring 2015.
Hearing set on summer leaf-blower ban
The trustees set a Dec. 28 public hearing proposed amendment to the village noise code banning gas-powered leaf blowers in the village from Memorial Day through Labor Day. On Sept. 28, village resident Ken Ludacer submitted to trustees a petition signed by 103 residents requesting action. Ludacer spoke of the “maddening decibel level and threat to public health and the environment” and presented studies by the Department of Environmental Conservation citing the negative impacts of gas-powered leaf blowers.
The public hearing will be held at the Third Street firehouse at 7 p.m. on Dec. 28.
In other action last night, the board hired Angela Taglieri as a full-time code enforcement officer at a pay rate of $18 per hour effective Dec. 11. Taglieri will receive health insurance and other full-time employment benefits as specified in the current contract between the village and the CSEA Local 1000.
