Lydia Tuthill Dickerson Numbers, 99

Lydia Tuthill Dickerson Numbers of Southold died Nov. 28,2017. She was 99 years old.

She was born in Southold to Albert T. Dickerson and Ethel Wines Boutcher on Sept. 2, 1918.

She graduated from Southold High School, studied in New York and worked for several years in the office at the Greenport Basin and Contracting Company.

In 1943 she met her future husband Nelson Numbers at a USO dance at the Westhampton Air Base. They married prior to him shipping out to serve in Eurpoe during World War II. After the war they settled in Michigan and raised their family in Detroit. In 1976 after retirement, they returned to Southold.

In her spare time she was active in the Presbyterian Church and enjoyed working with the Southold Historical Society.

Predeceased by her husband Nelson, her daughter Susan Jane Davidson, her brothers Henry, Lloyd, Earnest, Albert II and Arthur, her sisters Helen Linton, Edna Montgomery, Alberta Fickeissen and Marion Niver, she is survived by her son Terry H., her daughter-in-law Leanne T., her granddaughter Kathryn Tuthill Numbers, her grandson Alexander Benjamin Numbers, her sister-in-law Irene Dickerson, many nieces and nephews and their families, Diane Walser, her neighbors and friends at Colonial Village and the members of the Presbyterian Church.

A service of remembrance will be held on a date yet to be determined in Southold during the summer of 2018.

Memorial donations may be made to the Southold Presbyterian Church.
