Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Blasko, 90

Elizabeth “Betty” Blasko, a former long-time resident of Greenport died Dec. 9, 2017 at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue. She was 90 years old.

She was born in Greenport on Feb. 28, 1927 to Ethel May (nee Merrill) and George Capon.

She graduated from Greenport Schools and worked as a skate instructor at the Greenport American Legion skating rink where she met her future husband, Carl H. Blasko Sr. They made their home in Greenport for 57 years until moving to Founder’s Village Community in Southold nine years before his death in July of 2016.

She worked for the IGA and the Arcade in Greenport. She was a 60-year member of the Greenport Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Greenport United Methodist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed ceramics, Find-A-Word puzzles, playing Bingo and decorating her home for the holidays.

Predeceased by her husband Carl Blasko Sr., she is survived by four children, Carl H. (Lorraine) of Cutchogue, Bruce (Cathy) of Greenport, Karen of Southold and Gary (Carla) of Queensbury, New York, three siblings, Ethel Quillin, George Capon of Greenport and Bev Lehr of Southold, seven grandchildren, Timmy Blasko (Regina) of Cutchogue, Jayme Rishe (Marc) of Greenport, Gabby Blasko of Queensbury, New York, Will Blasko of Greenport, Carter Blaski of Queensbury, New York. John Blasko and Matthew Blasko of Greenport, and three great-grandchildren, Olivia and Charlie Blasko both of Cutchogue and Elizabeth Rishe of Greenport.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. A funeral service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Tom MacLeod of the North Fork United Methodist Church officiating.
