Proposed revisions to the town parking code will be the subject of two upcoming town board public hearings.
On Sept. 26 the board will hear comments on a change to the term of the two-year resident parking permits issued by the town. The first two-year period will run from Jan. 1, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2019. Succeeding two-year periods shall commence on Jan. 1 of every even-numbered year.
On Oct. 24 the board will hear comments on proposed code changes affecting parking at beaches that will: allow the attendant at New Suffolk beach to sell nonresident one-day passes, which will be required for parking there; establish a requirement for a commercial boat launcher permit; and establish a requirement for separate trailer parking permits. Resident parking permits will no longer cover boat trailers. The proposed code revision excepts the holders of night fishing permits parking during night hours from the trailer permit requirement. (The town board scheduled this public hearing by a resolution adopted Aug. 29.)
Both the Sept. 26 and Oct. 24 town board meetings begin at 7:30 p.m. Both hearings are noticed for 7:31 p.m.
In other action at this week’s regular meeting, the Southold Town Board:
- scheduled an Oct. 10 public hearing (4:30 p.m.) on a $300,000 bond to fund the replacement of port and starboard main propulsion systems for the ferry Munnatawket of the Fishers Island Ferry District.
- granted permission to the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Historical Council to hold its Annual Antique Car Show on the Cutchogue Village Green in Cutchogue on Sunday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- appropriated $275,000 for road resurfacing.
- authorized the Justice Court director to submit an application to the Justice Court Assistance Program of the New York State Unified Court System, requesting a grant not to exceed $30,000 for the purchase of specific court-related items.
- scheduled a public hearing on the Coastal Erosion Hazard Board of Review Appeal of Betty Edwards Johnson, in connection with removal of existing deck, dock reconstruction and shoreline stabilization within a near shore area in a coastal erosion hazard area located on property at 190 Peninsula Road, Fishers Island.
- granted permission to town planning department staff to attend the American Planning Association’s 2017 East End Planning Conference in Riverhead on Sept. 20.
- appointed George G. Lessard III to the position of School crossing guard at the daily rate of $93.54 effective Sept. 6.
- acknowledged the intent to retire of Michael A. Caprise from the position of scale operator for the town Solid Waste District effective Nov. 30.
