Southold/Greenport defeated Haldane to capture the Class “C” Regional Finals at Diamond in the Pines in Coram.
The first half had Haldane keeping the play at midfield, with Southold getting a few shots on net, but nothing threatening. Haldane struck first, on a sweet goal by Jade Vallella, who made it 1-0.
The second half found Southold with a little bit more push, as they weaved there way into the Haldane zone, the ball found the foot of Grace Syron, who sent a 20-yard strike into the top left corner, and suddenly it was tied 1-1.
With about 10 minutes remaining, Haldane was called for a penalty against Southold, which was then rewarded with a penalty kick. The kick was taken by Jill Golden, who sent a rocket past the keeper to make it 2-1. Southold then put on a defensive clinic, and held off Haldane to capture the Crown.
