Cutchogue ushered in the holiday season last night with its annual tree lighting on the Cutchogue Village Green.
Island Folk, a Shelter Island based folk group, played a mix of classic and modern carols. After the tree was lit, the crowd was asked to join in and to sing loud enough so that Santa could hear, since there was a rumor he was seen in the neighborhood earlier Saturday.
Just as the crowd began to sing “Here Comes Santa Claus,” the big man himself arrived in the back of a pickup truck. With a little help from a friend, Santa got off the truck and greeted the children, before heading into the Old School House to hear their Christmas wishes.
