Update: 6:34 p.m. Southold Police have identified the woman injured while riding her bicycle on Route 25 in Southold today as Patrice Melley, 62, of Gilford, Connecticut.
According to Southold Town Police, Charles J. Murray, 58, of Shelter Island, was driving his 2005 Chevrolet box truck west on Route 25 when he struck Melley, who was also heading west on her bicycle.
Murray’s truck was impounded for a safety inspection; he was not charged with a crime at this time but the investigation is ongoing, police said.
Original story: A female bicyclist was airlifted by Suffolk County Medivac to Stony Brook University Hospital after she was seriously injured in an accident on Route 25 in Southold today.
The accident, which took place at approximately 3 p.m. on Route 25 just east of Laurel Avenue, in front of KK’s Farm, involved a car and the bicycle, police at the scene said.
Witnesses at the scene said the victim had been speaking immediately after the accident, but it was not immediately clear how severe her injuries were.
Southold Town Police and Southold Fire Department rescue responded to the scene. Route 25 was closed in both directions for over a half hour.
No further information was immediately available.
