Cops: Crackdown on limos, buses leaves 3 out of service

Two buses and one limousine were taken out of service yesterday after the Southold Town Police Department, working alongside the Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Section and others conducted a federal Department of Transportation check throughout town, police said.

Officers escorted eight buses and nine limousines to the checkpoint, where 34 were cited. Also involved were the Suffolk County Consumer Affairs Division, Taxi and Limousine Commission, police said.

SCPD MCSS issued six tickets and SCTLC issued three, police said.

One bus was cited for making an illegal turn at Route 48 and Depot Lane by STPD, police said  — the site of the deadly Cutchogue limo crash that killed four young women in July.

As a result of the safety checks two buses and one limousine were placed out of service, police said.
