Halloween parades a’plenty for local children

Pumpkins are popping up all over and children are waiting eagerly to don their costumes for a full slate of Halloween parades scheduled for the North Fork.

To begin, a parade will kick off at 2 p.m. today at the Oysterponds Union Free School District.

Next, tomorrow morning at 9 a.m., the Greenport Village Halloween Parade is slated to begin at 9 a.m., when children are invited to meet at the carousel for a free ride, through 9:45. Then, they can join the fun and march in the parade to Floyd Memorial Library, where a party will be held, complete with a pumpkin contest and goodie bags, as well as a spooky backdrop for picture taking. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated pumpkin. The event is sponsored by the village, Floyd Memorial Library and the Greenport PTA.

The Southold Union Free School district’s Halloween parade begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Southold Firehouse on Main Road and takes place downtown.

The Cutchogue Fire Department will host its annual “Children’s Halloween Parade,” beginning at 6 p.m. at the Cutchogue West School on Depot Lane and ending at the Firehouse with treats and refreshments.

The Mattituck Lions Club presents its annual “Parade & Monster Mash,” beginning at 6 p.m. at the Mattituck Firehouse. New this year is a stand-up, open photo booth. A party follows after the parade at the Mattituck High School gym, including a light show, DJ, food, and a costume contest for kids in categories 0 to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 8 and 9 to 12.
