Cops: Jaws of life used to extricate woman after Route 48 crash

A young woman was extricated from her vehicle by the jaws of life after a crash on Route 48 in Cutchogue this evening, Southold police said.

The woman was the driver of a white sedan northbound on Cox Lane that collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Route 48 and Cox Lane at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police. The cause of the accident remains under investigation, they said.

Cutchogue Fire Department Rescue responded to the scene to extricate the trapped driver from her car. She was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital, police said; the extent of her injuries was not immediately clear, but authorities said they were not believed to be life-threatening.

The male driver of the pickup truck was uninjured, police said.
