Porter pride was flowing at Fifth Street Park yesterday, where thousands of Greenport High School alumni got together for the third biennial all-class reunion.
The day-long event, initiated in 2012 by TK Krumenacker (Class of 1982), drew thousands to the park for friendship, fun and food yesterday.
Porter alumni use the event to raise money for their alma mater, with a giant raffle and the sale of Porter merchandise, like T-shirts and coffee mugs. Two years ago, the reunion raised $3,600. Krumenacker said the reunion committee contacts the school’s department heads to find out what they need for the coming school year.
“The best part is people getting together, seeing people they haven’t seen in years,” Krumenacker said. “It’s a great time.”
“What’s nice is you get to see people from all different classes, not just your own,” said Chatty Allen, who was serving up hamburgers and hot dogs under the food tent.
The event was supported by dozens of local businesses, who donated food, beverages and raffle items.
