Cutchogue kicks off holiday season with tree lighting, visit from jolly old St. Nick

There was a hint of winter in the air Saturday evening as the Peconic Bay Carolers led the crowd gathered at the Cutchogue Village Green in song, kicking off the holiday season with the lighting of the Christmas tree and the arrival of Santa himself.

After the switch was flipped and the tree glowed with hundreds of colored lights, the doors of the historic one room schoolhouse were opened to welcome visitors and await the arrival of Santa, who entered the room ringing sleigh bells and bellowing his signature “Ho Ho Ho!”

Children – and even one pooch – took turns sitting with Santa as parents took snapshots and then enjoyed treats and hot cider.
