Police: Man wanted on bench warrant gave cops false name

A Southold resident is facing a false personation charge after he gave a false name to police officers Wednesday, according to Southold Town Police.

Police said they went to the Route 48 home of Manuel Ernesto Santos, 25, Wednesday evening to arrest him on an outstanding bench warrant. Santos gave offeres a false name, according to a police press release issued last night.

Santos was wanted for failure to appear on a prior charge of driving while intoxicated, police said. He told officers Wednesday his name was Wilfredo. He was then additionally charged with false personation, a misdemeanor, transported to police headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.
