Greenport defeated Port Jefferson 49-37 in a non-league game at Greenport High School last night.
Greenport played a solid up and down game against a speedy Port Jeff team. It was a defensive show in the first half with both teams stealing balls and causing turnovers, and at the end of the half, Greenport was ahead 25-17.
The second half was more of the same with Greenport playing extra hard, blocking shots down low, and scoring baskets on breakaway passes.
Sam Strickland and Julian Swann were a solid combo down low, blocking shots, pulling down rebounds, and scoring some points too. Ahkee Anderson turned in a solid performance with a game-high 17 points.
The Porters never looked back and won 49-37.
Greenport (0-0 in League VIII, 4-5 overall) travels to Stony Brook (0-1,3-3) on Wednesday for its first in-conference matchup of the season. The Porters’ next home game is Friday, Jan. 13, against Shelter Island. Tip-off time is 6:15 p.m.
