The Suffolk County Historical Society has two exhibits running through early spring – one features historic maps and the other is a show of turn-of-the-century photos that have never been on exhibit before.
The Mapping Suffolk County exhibit in the Gish Gallery features a wide and varied assortment of original and reproduction historic maps of areas across Suffolk County, from the 1700s to the 1900s. This exhibit will run through Spring 2017.
Fullerton’s Long Island: “The Lure of the Land” is an exhibition of over 70 large-sized historic photographs of turn-of-the-century Long Island from the Hal B. Fullerton Collection in the Grand Staas Gallery. Also on display are vintage cameras — including glass-plate negative cameras — and other artifacts documenting the early history of photography. The exhibit, which is curated by Neil Scholl and Peter Dicke will run to March 2017.
