Greenport High School scores silver medal award nationally in second year winning streak

Go, Porters — Greenport High School has scored national recognition as U.S. News & World Report ranked the school in the top 7.8 percent of schools in the country in their annual “Best Schools” report, earning a silver medal school designation.

The school is on a winning streak — last year, Greenport High School was named in the top ten percent of high schools in the nation; the school moved up over 600 spots since last year.

Greenport High School ranks #1,525 in the nation, and 121st in New York State, according to U.S. News & World Report; U.S. News calculates the values based on student performance on state exit exams and internationally available exams on college-level course work.

Test results indicate that 92 percent of students are proficient in English, and 96 percent are proficient in math, with a college readiness index of 25.6 percent, according to district averages.

Hometown pride was brimming at the high school this week. “It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone in this building and the community as a whole. Together we’ve created an atmosphere that students want to be a part of, and are willing work for.  We couldn’t be prouder of our entire K-12 faculty or our students,” said High School Principal Len Skuggevik.
