After 24 years of operating a seasonal farmstand on First Street in Greenport Village, the Latham family has decided to call it quits.

“We’re just trying to downsize a little,” said Patti Latham in a phone interview. “My husband’s just got too much on his plate.”

Danny and Patti Latham have been renting the space across the street from the IGA and Latham said she was unsure of what the owners have planned for the space.

“We almost opened it again,” says Latham. “But our daughters kept telling their dad that he was getting older and should try to slow down a little. But knowing him he’ll fill up the time with more farm work.”

He just can’t keep away from the farm, she said.

The Latham Farm, located in Orient, was established in the 1600s and has been passed down from generation to generation. It is one of the largest and oldest independently run farms on Long Island.
