There are 614 paper ballots from Southold voters waiting to be counted at the board of elections’ Yaphank headquarters. Two Democrats hope to pick up enough additional votes when those ballots are counted to win their respective races.
The board brought the operating budget back down to the level proposed by the supervisor in his tentative budget, in part by shifting the cost of a road-striping machine to the capital budget. The town tax rate will rise 1.64 percent in 2018.
